The main character in this book is an eighteen year old girl who is known as Nikki who lives with her mother and sister in Texas. She is not happy at home because she does not get on with her mother. Nikki does have an ambition though, she wants to work in the music industry. She is very good at singing, dancing and even song writing . She has posted her work on You Tube and she has been seen by some big shot in the music industry who has offered her an audition to see if she is good enough to be in a new girl band.
This audition is to take place in California and Nikki knows that if she gets picked to be in the band, she will never go back to Texas. This does not go down well with her sometimes boyfriend Mal who is also her best friend. The couple are on a break at the very start of the story, but then they start dating again. Nikki does not know if this will be a good thing if she is to be going away soon. So Mal takes her on a road trip so that he can show her what she will be missing . Unfortunately their trip is cut short because her sister has gone missing.
