My Week With Him reads a bit like a series of diary entries, with each of the chapters/sections titled by time checks, which are punctuated occasionally by social media/text-style messaging.

The young adult novel is written from the first person point of view of Nikki, who is faced with the dilemma of leaving Texas for California to pursue her dreams (after being made homeless at the beginning of Spring Break) or spending the week with her best friend Mal (who has discovered her plan and is trying to convince her to stay in Texas).

The short chapters and timespan results in a fast-paced story and an accessible read (if not always the most challenging), while the colours on the front cover are warm and inviting. In addition, the themes of the story - small town, big dreams, road trip, romance etc. - are likely to appeal to the target audience.
