The story started off a little slow, but as I continued reading I was hooked. The emotions of the character and the feelings displayed were enthralling. The more I read the more I felt connected to the main character and her struggles.

The author really manages to capture the heart and head of each character and the battle between what Nikkis heart wants and what her head wants. The pacing of the story is good, with a nice slowish introduction to the characters and their backgrounds before getting into the struggles and conflicts they face. The pace increases as you read and I found myself feeling as though I knew each character well.

The imagery and descriptions are perfect, a really clear mental picture can be created. I’d recommend this book to a more YA audience as it is centred around teenage conflicts with love and tough parenting as well as following pathways to goals and not giving up.

4/5 stars would recommend.
