"Night by Night" is a truly twisting and sinister tale, which builds in darkness, intensity, and horror until the final reveal, which is ultimately tragic and heartbreaking. This paralyzing thriller follows Rose, an insomniac, whose sleeplessness and negligence behind the wheel caused one of her twin daughters to die, leaving the other, Lily, in permanent guilt and distrust. Rose's husband, Christian, and Lily both rightfully blame Rose for the tragedy, but she longs to move on and make her family whole again.

On a walk, Rose bumps into a man who drops a notebook. Inside, she reads a note explaining that the man, Finn Matthews, has been stalked and hunted down by a stranger. He's been ignored and tormented by the police. Rose fears for his life and kicks off into action, her sole goal to find him and save him, even if it means excommunication from her family.

Rose becomes embroiled in this plot of a man killing local gay teens and adults, as she reads the diary and asks far too many questions. She begins to notice how the local English police force wants everything to go quietly under the radar and for Rose to leave everything alone. This is not an easy book to read, with vivid descriptions of gay bashing and severe injury.

This book is highly engrossing, with interesting characters and surprising twists. I felt constantly on the edge of my seat, and I truly did not want to put the book down, even on New Year's Eve!

The final twist was horrible, but in the best literary way. What an impressive read. I plan to read the rest of Jack Jordan's books, as soon as I can get my hands on them!

An aspect that I was uncomfortable with was the level of homophobia and violent crimes. I felt very disheartened by the true villain, because it felt offensive. This might be too strong and emotional of a book for sensitive readers.

I received a complimentary advance copy of this book in exchange for reading and reviewing purposes. Thank you to Corvus Books.
