It's a chiller, a thriller, a murder mystery. It's a glimpse of evil, of loneliness and heartbreak. Jack Jordan very ably shows us the thoughts and feelings of Rose, a middle-aged wife and mother who is persistent in trying to help victims and their families though they are strangers to her.

We also have the journal of Finn, an innocent stranger whose life is rapidly unravelling. We feel enormous sympathy for a young man who seems to be pitilessly taunted and hunted. But there's just a nagging edge of guilt that perhaps we fall into the same heedless crowd of townspeople who fail to see his misery, fail to believe his story, fail to help.

And there lies some of Rose's motivation as she too has been judged and held to be guilty by the sway of public opinion. When love, respect and friendship are all withdrawn then even the strongest person can disintegrate.
