This is book three in the Daughters of War trilogy, but I haven't yet read the previous two books and this didn't stop me at all enjoying this book. It's a story of secrets, featuring Vicky and her grandmother Clemence. Set in Marrakech, Morocco in the 1960s, Vicky and her cousin Bea after a drunken prank broke into the garden of Yves Saint Laurent, trying to return a sketchbook containing all his latest designs to him after realising what a dreadful mistake they had made, but then to their horror they saw their friend Jimmy being shot dead by Patrice, a friend of Vicky's grandmother. Now after a bad road accident caused by a gazelle jumping out in front of their car, Tom who was driving was badly injured and Bea went off on her own to get help. Now Bea is missing and only her backpack has been found. Bea's parents have arrived and are understandably very worried, so Vicky takes the police to where she saw the shooting take place. Soon the whole family is looking but things are not looking good for her.

What follows is an exciting story covering kidnap, murder, family members finding out about themselves and their true parentage, all set under the sultry sun. An exciting story, would recommend this to anyone who loves a good historical book.
