As always a trip with Dinah Jefferies is interesting, evocative and feels very well researched. I haven't visited Morocco but was able to vividly imagine the location.

After many twists and turns throughout the story, told from multiple points of view, the many strands of the novel are pulled together, and questions ultimately answered satisfactorily, some of which make for extremely uncomfortable reading.

I did feel, however, that some quite shocking elements were treated lightly and brushed over, it may be fiction but even so!

I wasn't aware until afterwards that it was part of a series and I don't believe it affected my enjoyment of the novel that I hadn't read the others. It could definitely have been a bit shorter, and I felt towards the end I started to speed read through some of the chapters.

The cover is gorgeous, and appropriate for this escapist tale of many secrets.
