I had not read any books by Dinah Jefferies but had obviously been missing a treat. This is definitely a 'don't want to put it down' story.
It begins with Vicky's arrival in Marrakech with notions of being greeted warmly by the grandmother she has not met before, and meeting Yves Saint Laurant who she would like to work for.
Instead her grandmother tries to persuade her to leave and warns her of the dangers of staying.
As she settles into her own accommodation and her younger cousin joins her life starts to become more complicated. There are people and secrets in her grandmother and great grandmother's past that seem to be coming to the surface.
You are gradually fed bits of information. The author builds up the tension and just when you think you know what is going on that idea is turned on it's head.
I would definitely read more from this author.
