I have not read Dinah Jefferies other two books in the series so cannot compare it with them but have to say I was whisked off to Marrakech on the train with Vicky the young would be designer in search of adventure and a grandmother, Clemence, she has never met and only just found out about. It is very descriptive and I could almost smell the spices.
The story follows Vicky in part as she hopes to build a relationship with her grandmother and meet Yves Saint Laurent with whom she dreams of working with and Clemence who is living up in the mountains looking after her mother and has many secrets from her past which are to put both of them in danger.
Vicky has a cousin Bea who comes to join her to explore Marrakech.
Several men from Clemence's past come back into her life one,Theo, a lover and Patrice who is after items he says he should of inherited and he trys to blackmail her amongst other things.
I found it a gripping read and will now look at her previous books.
