Midnight Train to Marrakech starts off promising to be a gripping family saga then, with a few unexpected twists and turns Dinah Jefferies turns this into an enthralling thriller as well. Set in 1966 Vicky travels to Morocco after finishing her design course with the twin purposes of meeting her paternal grandmother for the first time and hopefully also meeting Yves St Laurent who is her idol in the world of fashion design. There is a mystery surrounding why her grandmother sent her baby, Vicky's father, to France with Jacques, his father, and never saw him again. Victor, Vicky's father was killed during the second world war so Vicky never had the chance to speak to him about his past. Vicky also meets up with some other young people who are interested in the troubled political situation in Morocco at the time and quickly gets caught up in more mystery which brings her and her cousin, Beatrice who has joined Vicky in Marrakech, into great danger. This is the final book of Dinah Jefferies Daughters of War trilogy. It can be read as a standalone book but I would certainly recommend reading them all.
