I liked the beginning of the book and the idea behind the story which involves an estranged family that were brought together with little real knowledge about each other or the secret pass they have had.

The plot involves, Vicky Baudin who is the granddaughter who has come to Morocco to meet her grandmother - Clemence. This is their first meeting, as Vicky has never met her grandmother before. I liked the dual narrative of the book and hearing from both Vicky and Clemence.

The beginning does read as a mysterious, adventure story involving families, politics and aspects that occur in different parts of the world. I liked the range of the genre here and I liked the use of French idioms and expressions as they are used. All of the details from other parts of the world - such as the details of Marrakesh life, really do add to the escapism feel that the story gives the reader.
