Having just read the first three chapters of 'Nightcrawling' I can fully understand why the publisher describes it as "an unforgettable novel about young people navigating the darkest corners of an adult world, told with a humanity that is at once agonising and utterly mesmerising." The author's wonderfully evocative prose has already brought the characters alive for me because Kiara's first-person, passionate narrative has been so effective in drawing me into the struggles she faces each and every day. I imagine that reading her story will take me on a disturbing and emotional journey into a world I've been fortunate enough never to have had to face. However, I imagine that by the time I turn the final page I will have gained a greater understanding of what it's like to 'walk a mile in her shoes' ... one of the hallmarks of good writing.
I'm glad to have had the opportunity to read the opening chapters because the cover cover certainly wouldn't have attracted me ... the lurid pink seems so out of keeping with the dark story contained within!
