Nightcrawling is a contemporary story of family and friendships and what it is like to be young and facing the realities of just getting by in life.

Marcus and Kiara are a brother and sister living in an apartment in a rundown neighbourhood with few prospects of improving their lives. Gangs, drugs, violence and death are always there in the background.

Yet Marcus, even though he is burying his head in the sand over the realities of life, still has a dream, almost a fantasy, that life will get better, even though it is getting worse.

This is not a story that is going to be a happy ever after ending.

I love the authors writing style. The not so pleasant contents of the swimming pool, mocking laughter at dawn, their neighbours visual appearance - the author is using all of the senses to paint descriptive written pictures and scenes in the telling of the story.

The book cover suits the book and I would want to read it.
