My first impression of the book 'Nightcrawling' is that it is a gritty tale.
The lead character Kiara lives with her brother Marcus in a rented apartment. Their landlord has just posted a notice of intent to raise their rent and Kiara, who is the only one in the household who is currently working ( casual shifts in a local grocery store) is worried they will be evicted.
Meanwhile Marcus believes he is about to make it big in the world of rap music.
They live in a run down neighbourhood, with a drugs problem.
I am intrigued to find out how Kiara gets herself out of the situation she is finding herself in.
