Set in Oakland this is apparently a story of young boys and girls of the ‘hood trying to get by. Kiara is saddled with a deadbeat brother and has taken responsibility for the 9 year old son of a neglectful mother who may be going the same way. No she is facing eviction and I am assuming that this is what leads her to her confrontation with the police. Cannot quite see in the first page is how it matches up with the blurb but it doesn’t really appeal to me at all. It probably should but, in any event , I am not the target audience
