Powerful, rough, gritty.
The shocking pink cover demands your attention, and it sounds promising, but reading it is not a pleasant experience. The opening sentence is "The swimming pool is filled with dog shit" and "shit" is a recurring word. The plot moves along at a smart pace, scraping the bottom of the barrel of life. A harsh story, strongly portrayed, but you have to negotiate the niggling Amercianisms, spelling, method of expression, and plain crudity. Not an entertaining book.
