The Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley is definitely a book I would recommend. It’s a book about a 17 year old girl named Keira Johnson who takes care of her younger brother Marcus as well as herself. She’s also helping out a local boy named Trevor who also experiences problems within his family. There are many triggers in this book, and I’d probably advise people to be aware of the content this book contains. It’s definitely a rollercoaster of emotions and the fact that it’s inspired by a true story makes it even more disturbing for me.
Despite the books cruel nature, it’s worth a read, each page easily drifts into the next. Every turn of the page had me on edge. Leila Mottley certainly has a way with her words, her rhythm and flow adds a kick to the writing. I felt that the story was quite tense and gripping, tension being present throughout the book.
