I initially found this book a little bit of a slow burn, but I got into it more towards the middle. Although the subject matter is very gritty and dark, I found the writing style to be quite poetic!

There was a good range of characters, but I can't say I particularly warmed to any of them. I enjoyed reading about Kiara's relationship with Trevor... but the book was probably a little too short to properly delve into her relationship with the other characters.

I enjoyed the ending - it didn't end in the way I anticipated, but it was (sadly) realistic. If anything, I  felt that the ending could have been a little longer. Definitely a personal preference, but I would have loved more detail regarding the court case.

I was shocked to discover this was based on a true story... it definitely changed the way I thought about the book and made it more impactful. I also thought it was really impressive that Leila Mottley wrote this whilst she was a teen herself... makes me wonder what I actually did with my life back then 😂
