Based on a true story from Oakland police department in 2015, this is an amazing, heartbreaking read. The main character Kiara is forced in to the world of prostitution in order to prevent her own eviction, and also for the protection of her brother and her neighbour's child. Appallingly, even the police department are involved in employing Kiara for their own entertainment, taking advantage of her poor financial situation.
It's a difficult book to read in that the topic can be quite heart-wrenching and sensitive, but a very important topic to cover in this time. other topics covered also include racism, human trafficking and abuse. The characters were also very well portrayed.
I strongly recommend this book, and believe Leila Mottley has made a huge success at just the age of 17! I am so excited to read more of this author's work in the future.
