My review is based on the audiobook rather than the physical copy however as it is a unabridged audiobook, this will reflect the same as if I had read the book as opposed to listen to it.
From the start I knew this book was going to tear apart my heart and I was correct.
Nightcrawling is a slow burn. Inspired by true events of corruption and exploitation it made for a harrowing and at times, traumatic, read. You would never be able to tell this was a first time novel written by a teenager.
Mottley writes to beautifully but her words pack such a punch, told through the eyes of Kiara, we get to follow her story which is filled with brutality, harrassment, violence and a whole host of other issues. Despite all that is thrown in her way, she remains positive and motivated to do what she must to keep a roof over her head, even when all the cards are stacked against her.
