There were some things about this book that I liked. I really admire the fact that such a young author can write a book that attracts wide readership and praise, and is about such a hardhitting topic. Kiara's character felt very real. The storyline was emotional and I appreciated that the ending was realistic.
However, it ultimately stays on a 3 star for me because the pacing felt off. I really struggled with the first half of the book because it felt very slow and I struggled to connect to the plot or characters. I pushed through and then towards the end, the pacing picked up so much that it went too fast and the final few chapters felt sudden and rushed. Occasionally the writing was just a bit over the top and I found myself sometimes skimming long paragraphs.
Overall, a good book with a powerful plot, but it wasn't executed well enough for me to love it.
