A very young author writing about very adult themes which can make a child wise, unfortunately, beyond their years when they are exposed to such horrific things. Not an easy read but a powerful and heartbreaking one. The protagonist, Kiara, is a strong but vastly abused young girl who looks after those around her without spending much time thinking about herself. She enters the world of adulthood much too quickly through events, and the plot becomes very dark at times. It also helps to highlight that these things do happen to young girls everywhere every day, and that it is something that shoul be spoken about more. The bright pink cover may fool the reader into thinking they are getting a light-hearted story, but this is anything but. It is mature beyond the character and the author's ages, and is an excellent if at times vastly difficult read.
