As soon as I saw this book I knew it was something I needed to read! The concept behind the novel of exploring the genuine and real impact of political decisions and racial discrimination is something that has always interested me.
That being said, I felt that this story only scratched the surface on the impact on the characters lives.
The story explores a family who are forced into separation due to the father having to leave American to go back to his dad's funeral and upon return being refused entry. I can only imagine the impact this would of had on the family however it feels as if the author only looked at the tip of the iceberg in opposed to really exploring the deeper emotional distress this would have caused.
In theory the book explores some really important topics however for me I wanted it to be a little more explorative. I rated this 3/5
