No land to Light On by Yara Zgheib tells the story of Sama and Hadi, who whilst living in Boston find themselves split up from one another because of a travel ban imposed at the US border.

The book is fairly short and I read it within a couple of hours. Although the chapters were short too and moved between different years, I still found this easy to read and the story flowed well for me.

More than anything, this novel really made me stop and think about how frightening this situation would be. Continually fighting for freedom and being split up from family is ultimately what this story is about, and the descriptions and style of writing by Zgheib are really powerful at times.

Overall, I would recommend this book to others. I have read other similar novels that have really made me think about situations like this and this is no different. A powerful read.
