This book was a really fast read for me. It helps that the chapters are so short I suppose but also Zgheib’s writing is amazing. I don’t know how she manages to keep it so descriptive and captivating whilst its also so fragmented and split between alternative points of view. We swap between both Hadi and Sami and also at different places in time – however this didn’t put me off the book and in fact gave it more depth for me. They came across as very real to me and so the story itself became very moving and emotional. I struggled to put it down and was thinking about it for weeks afterwards, it had that much of an effect on me. This book will really make you think and feel and I believe it is really important to be bringing awareness to these topics and how they impact upon the people experiencing them. The way it was written I could really sense what was being described and picture it in my mind rather than the book just ‘telling’ the story. It took me away from where I was and transported me into it which is always a mark of good writing. I loved the cover artwork as well it just really felt it had the right fit and feel for this book – all in all amazing.
