I loved this book even more than I expected to. It was written so poetically with some beautiful lyrical and metaphorical writing such as the metaphor about migratory birds.
From the beginning the pace kept me interested and I found I was able to empathise with the characters despite never having experienced anything like the situations they are in. As an expectant mother I found myself feeling an especially strong bond with Sama and rooting for her and her baby.
I enjoyed the juxtaposition of different timelines showing what the characters had gone through in the past and the love story between Sama and Hadi.
The news report clippings lent a scary reality to the story that really drove home that although this is fiction, people live through experiences such this and it gave me a different perspective on my own life.
