No Land to Light On is the story of Sama and Hadi, Syrian born but freedom bound, trying to establish a new and safer life in America for themselves, their wider and future family. Their experience highlights the challenges faced by many offered resettlement but plagued by documentation challenges, circumstance and chance.

The book cleverly juxtaposes the immigration of people and the migration of birds, both making long journeys fraught with danger and hope.

This story of dreams and fears reminded me of The Beekeeper of Aleppo. Both books equally worth reading to remember and appreciate our own freedoms. I found the concept of a passport, “a pass across lands and seas into welcoming foreign ports” particularly poignant.

Thank you to Readers First and to the publisher for the opportunity of a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
