The flow of this book is seamless as it blends the present tense with the past. As soon as I started reading, I was hooked and invested in the characters, Hadi and Sama as they’re seperated at the airport whilst Sama is heavily pregnant. What makes this book thought provoking is that whilst it is fiction, for some, this is an every day occurrence in parts of the world. Families being torn apart and the struggle to come back together is something most of us have been lucky to never experience and reading this book actually made me passionate about wanting to help make a change and support this cause. Each word feels as though it has been carefully chosen, but still the story forms effortlessly through each paragraph, like a beautiful and harrowing poem. I knew I wanted to read this book and I’m so glad I did. I’d recommend this without hesitation but I do think the writing style will be like marmite - you may love the poetic style of the sentences or find them too long winded and fluffy.
