No land to light on is the moving story of Sama and Hadi, two refugees caught up in Trump's America. Whilst not explicitly mentioned, the dates and extracts imply this.

Whilst returning home to Syria, via Jordan to help arrange a visa for his parents, Hadi becomes trapped due to a new law implemented by the shamed US president. In a way the author provides a thought provoking situation that demonstrates how a ill thought out law impacts the lives of real people.

The in-depth relationships and past stories of home help to understand the difficult decisions refugees have to make. It is not simply a case of leaving home for better life, but having to deal with guilt and anxiety of leaving loved ones.

I thought that the inclusion of stories about migratory birds added another thought provoking and beautiful metaphor to the story.

However, I did get a bit lost at times as the author makes numerous time jumps, which can be confusing at times.
