I was genuinely so thrilled to get a copy of this book because it looked relevant and inspiring. Thankfully, this book didn’t disappoint. It’s heartfelt and poignant and left me feeling utterly devastated in so many ways.
Focusing on a couple very much in love, we see the story of Hadi and Sama. Unfortunately, geography means that the two are torn apart and the novel is a journey of them desperately finding safety from war-torn Syria and finding somewhere they can call home and to bring up their premature son.
I found myself gripped to this book. Partly because I was desperate to find out if they make it. I won’t ruin it for everyone but this book did surprise me.
Overall, it’s hard to summarise because it’s just so utterly shocking. It made me realise just how lucky we are and appreciate everything we have that we can often take for granted.
