Boston, 2017: When Hadi returns to his heavily pregnant partner Sama after a trip to Jordan to bury his father, he is stopped at border control - a hostile new immigration law has just been enacted - while she awaits him on the other side.

The novel follows two Syrians who have left their homeland for America, Hadi and Sama, who fall in love and find out they are expecting a child. Shortly before the baby is due, Hadi hears of his fathers death, and returns to Syria to attend the funeral. Only he doesn’t return.
I found Zghib’s writing wonderful, it reads like poetry, and through use of descriptive language, i found myself feelin like i was in Syria myself.
Overall, fab read, 4 stars!
