The beginning of this book is your pretty standard procedural fare. It does feel as though there have been other books featuring this particular serving member of the Garda but I haven't checked (yet!). Once again this seems to be moving in the direction of more of an ensemble piece and there is a good humour in the section based in the station - the tendency to black humour used by the members of the force to cement their relationships is very definitiely there and their nicknames for each other certainly raised a wry smile.

Not entirely sure where this is going yet but I am pretty sure the hit and run victim is whoever the girl in the prologue was going to meet and that she'd been used to lure him out there. Guess time, and pages, will tell.

From the first impression this doesn't seem to bring anything new to the genre but it is a good, solid example.
