This novel by Sam Blake (pseudonym of Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin) is one in a series featuring Cat Connolly, a detective with the Irish police force. She’s closely involved in an investigation into the hit and run killing of a young student, followed by the unexplained death of his friend, and the investigation gradually uncovers some global criminal activity with which they have become entangled. The plot involves cyber crime on a huge scale and cold blooded murder, and Cat finds herself in a very dangerous situation when she least expects it. Alongside this main thread is the burgeoning relationship between Cat and her boss, which gave the story another dimension. It took me a while to really become engaged with this book, but once I did, I found it quite compelling, even though it’s not a genre I would normally seek out.
