This is the third Cat Connolly novel and the first that I have read but such is the effect of this story that I will be seeking to read the rest of the series.
On the face of it this story starts as a routine police procedural as Cat and her colleagues investigate a hit and run and then a body found at the foot of some cliffs. Initially these appear to be disparate events until it becomes clear that both victims knew each other having been on the same course at university and having also interned at the same media outlet. From here the story grows arms and legs as the police gather more information that points them in different directions and that also appears to lead to a suggestion that at least one of the victims had been on the Dark Web.
Cat herself is dealing with not only having been passed over for promotion but also her feelings for her immediate superior who is about to be promoted and transferred to another county. Cat however possesses the ability to look dispassionately at the evidence and to infer connections from the evidence and it is this that leads to the cases snowballing and quickly taking on an international agenda that leads to a shock ending.
The story is fast paced and well researched and this leads to it being a good read that I would recommend to anyone.
