No Virgin - a book about the impact of an absolutely awful and horrific event. It draws on something that no human being should ever have to experience, but too many people have, or at least knows of someone else who has.
But No Virgin as a novel handles the issue extremely sensitively through its portrayal of Stacey's ordeal and the aftermath of it.
It highlights the difficulties many people face in dealing with it, especially in terms of going to the authorities to report what has happened to them. It is also hugely poignant that her friend, Patrice, is angry for her, and encourages her to deal with the rape in another way.
The characters in this novel, to me, seemed so real, and that's one of the things that made the book so devastating.
