Cassidy opens the door to a topic which is rarely spoken about within Young-Adult fiction - and for good reason as rape can be haunting, upsetting and triggering for an unfortunate amount of young readers. However, Cassidy bravely ventures into this plot and opens the eyes of young readers to a taboo and yet necessary topic.
It is exceptionally easy for young ladies to follow down the same route as Stacey but this short novel provides insight into what not to do and how young adults can support their friends if they believe them to be going through a hard time.
Cassidy's writing is beautiful and powerful, it honestly took my breath away and brought a tear to my eye. The ending was slightly disappointing as we are yearning to know how Stacey learns to deal with the consequences of what has happened to her, however perhaps that is part of the harrowing plot's nature that we as the reader are left uncomfortable, upset and perhaps slightly traumatised yet this experience still pales to that of Stacey's.
