A pretty folk design pointing toward Baltic countries on the cover reveals nothing of this novel's genre. The writing style is also fairly open but with a fluidity of language and intelligence of observation which promises a literary novel.

Even in the first few pages the writer includes lots of slightly jarring details which act like rocks underfoot, disturbing any complacency in the reader's experience and tantalising with the wealth of incident and history required to stitch them all together.
