A book about a post apocalyptic USA. Well timed, with a Trump presidency, Britain’s exit of Europe and a dystopian uprising on the fringes of our present day.

This is my kind of book, really enjoy the desolation of the dystopian stories. But surprisingly I found the first 30 pages lack lustre. Perhaps because it’s a sequel and doesn’t fully inform you what happened in the previous book. However I can imagine this myself from my previous reading.

It was the characters that didn’t really engage me, the final scene with the lady and the gentleman in the diner was probably the best part, with more realistic characters. The other characters were a little flimsy and one directional, ie I am a psychopath, I kill.

There was a lot of senseless swearing, sometimes this suited the characters, but mostly it jarred.

The virus vectoring was unrealistic and seemed to be driven too much by the plot to fit in. A little more research would have helped to add realism to this, adapting this to fit the plot better.

If I had the book now, I would read a little further to see if the characters become more tangible. But as it is, I have lost interest. It would be fairer if I could read the first book, maybe the score would go up by one star.

On a positive, the cover is excellent, very pickupable.
