I did not read the first book in this series before starting and so I am unsure whether or not it affected my enjoyment. I did feel I got enough of a back story to help me to follow along and get going with this book and I didn't feel confused or lost.
This is the first book of this genre that I have read and I really wasn't sure what i would think of it but I must say I was hooked from the very beginning and just wanted more!
The story and the world that has been created is really quite good but I did find it difficult to connect with and enjoy the characters they just seemed to be lacking somewhat.
All in all it is a good and quite exciting story and I would recommend it if you like post-apocalyptic settings in books.
