Loved it from the first page. Wilbur Smith writes clearly and elequantly about his life in Rodesia (now Zambia). The book is fast paced, belivable and funny!

I shared with Smith that awful feeling of dispair when his first novel (that wonderful masterpiece) was rejected by one publisher after another, sympathised as he picked himself up and bravely embarked on his second book, fine tuning skills he had learned years before through illicit reading in the underground latrine on his father’s ranch or listening to his Grandfather a natural storyteller. Look out for the snakes.

This book is not to be missed. Simply written but grounded in reality it is highly believable. I just want more of it!
