This is the first autobiography of the bestselling author Wilbur Smith.
It charts the extraordinary adventures he has had throughout his life, and from these you can see very clearly where much of the inspiration for his novels gave come from. In fact, he often mentions the books where he has used the varying experiences, which can at times feel like you are just reading an extended advert for his back catalogue.
Although there are numerous tales of daring exploits, I would have like to have read more about his personal relationships.. At one point he mentions his second marriage, yet he had made no mention of the previous one ending!
These minor gripes aside, this is written in the same fluid style as his novels, and I think it would appeal to anyone who has read and enjoyed these.
