The author writes very honestly and doesn't hold back on any details. It's not meant to be a comfortable read and yet the subject matter is handled sensitively in its honesty. Nothing is done for shock or sensational value.
The writing style is in keeping with the time and location of the story so dialect is used but it isn't hard to understand.
I'd like to read more to find out what happens to the women in the book as from the first impression I'm already feeling very invested in the story.
