One Blood is a generational story of female strength, motherhood and love. The novel is divided into three sections, The Book of Grace, The Book of Delores and The Book of Rae as we follow each of these main characters respectively. This structure allowed you to get to know each of the women and dive deep into their individual stories however it would have been nice to have their stories woven together too.
The tone of the novel is very bleak so it was a difficult one to get through. In ways it does show the resilience of women but I hoped for some more light among the darkness of the terrible things that happen to these women.
The novel is clearly very well researched and the level of detail brings each of the settings and time periods to life. Having said that, I wasn't the biggest fan of the writing. It often felt over-written and long-winded which affected the pace of the story and made it a slog to get through at times.
