One Blood is a story that is mainly based on what it has been like being a mother since the 1960s. The story takes us from 1965 until the early Twenty First Century and it follows the lives of three different women who all have different experiences when they become mothers.
The first section of the book is about Grace`s story. Grace lives with her grandmother who is training her to be a midwife. Grace is contented with her life until her own mother is killed and her grandmother is taken away from her. She is then sent to live with an Aunt who does not treat her well. While in this aunt`s care Grace meets a boy and gets pregnant. Her Aunt takes the baby away from Grace while she is sleeping and leaves the new born baby girl outside an orphanage.
Next we meet Lolo who cannot have children of her own, so she and her husband adopt a little boy and then , two years later they adopt a baby girl.
The little girl is named Rae, and the last section of the book tells her story of finding out that she was adopted . Then several years later she has a baby of her own with her husband.
I enjoyed reading this book because there were some great characters involved in the story.
