This is quite an interesting concept for a novel and I was certainly looking forward to reading it.
Unfortunately I found the way the author tried to make her first protagonist speak totally alien to my old British ear. It was unpleasant and depressing so I presume the author succeeded in her aim.

The book follows the story of mothers and daughters and the bond between them. It starts with Grace living with her grandmother in America during the terrible period when segregation was being fought and civil unrest was rife. She is sent to her Aunt but soon becomes pregnant. Her daughter is given away for adoption. The book tells the story of this little girl coming to terms with her adopted mother and birth mother.

I hate to give up on a book but I read for enjoyment and look forward to getting novels outside my usual genres to read in return for an honest review.
