I expected this to be quite the epic novel given the multi-generational span and traumatic subject matter and I was not disappointed. The positives are that it was a very powerful novel in terms of the subject matter and depictions of violence that were characteristic of the real-life history that it's depicting but at the same time quite overwhelming. Additionally, the three different split narratives are a little disjointed and don't necessarily connect together as seamlessly as they might for a smoother read.

You have to be a in a certain mood to be able to handle reading the novel as it can be quite overwhelming in terms of being a rather thought-inducing book as well as quite hard to emotionally process. However, if you are in the mood for something epic and thought-provoking, this is it! The occasional disjointedness and abrupt end to certain narratives might be a little distracting, however.
