I loved the concept/idea of this book and the constant references back to blood, heritage, family, etc. it definitely took me a while to get into it and I did struggle at times with the writing style. I found it quite slow to get into but once I did, it was worth the wait. Part of that might also be that I’m not a huge fan of hardbacks in and of themselves so can’t hold that against the book itself! Definitely a bit of a heavier read but if you okie that going in then I wouldn’t worry too much. Tackles important topics even if at times they were hard to read. My heart broke for MawMaw and poor Grace towards the beginning and the storytelling was so well done that it was actually a bit of a struggle to read because all of the pain was so raw and so real for these characters that you couldn’t help but get worried and sad with them when everything was unfolding.
