I really enjoyed this novel . A powerful and potent tale of black motherhood in the 60s . It dealt with underage sex , children out of wedlock, rape and other hard hitting topics. The characters were harsh but likeable and the story portrayed a sense of survival of the times. The story unfolds through several generations each depicting different family and meaning of love as the decades pass by. The book deals with love family and relationships and how we adapt to change and you cannot help but feel the characters are part of your own wider family and how you want to protect them and surround the with love. This is the first book I have read by this author . The cover blurb and storyline were eye catching and absorbing. I cannot wait to try out other works by Denene Millner and she is on my to read list for 2024 .Cannot praise this enough and is well worth a browse.
