Oh wow, this book has been a stab in the heart multiple times. The stories of generations of women who have dealt with extreme hard ship and racism beyond belief.
Maw maw was a strong fierce and good woman who was witch hunted for being a good woman, her daughter. Raped and murdered for being pretty! Grace then forced to live with an auntie who had no care for her and was simply cruel! When Grace finally got to meet her daughter only for her to be stolen whilst she slept - broke my heart.
Then we move to LoLo / her back story killed me. What monster takes away a woman’s right like that all because she was being raped! This happened and still happens. LoLo was strong and powerful and her distance comes from fear. She raises an amazing strong woman in Rae - she makes her own mistakes but she is an impressive woman who has a child and a career and I don’t agree with cheating but hell that girl put herself first.
