The book had a strong title and along with the cover it makes it look like an epic read. I really did love all of the strong characters involved in this story but I did find some of the events quite harrowing. The writing style is so engaging that you really do feel as if you are a ‘fly on the wall’ but because of the misogyny, racism and classism you would really rather not be there! Perhaps the combination of all of these things and the author’s expertise are what makes it all such a compelling read?
One Blood was surprising similar to reading a thriller as I really needed to know what will happen next (a real page turner). But the subject matter was very harrowing as the author is able to get you to empathise with the lives of others and there is a such a sense of forbidding throughout exemplified by all of the inequality towards women, ethnicity and social status.
